Music has profoundly influenced Arkoss from a very young age. Coming from a very musically family, where the cousins he looked up to were professional singers // musicians and his father a bad ass drummer in a band, Arkoss soon began developing his own musical dreams. Arkoss’ dad would take him to weekly band rehearsals, where there he would play on keyboards, and guitars. His dad also had a Barbershop with a drum kit in the back. It was here where his dad would also teach both Arkoss and his younger brother how to play the drums. Arkoss loved nothing more than to rain down on the drums, learning to play the different rhythms and styles.
However, at the age of 16, Arkoss made the most important musical discovery of his life when he came across underground dance music. He experienced the explosion of the whole rave scene first hand, going to outdoor raves and illegal warehouse parties. After a few years his passion for dance culture grew and became a way of life for him and he soon began organising his own raves as well as getting himself a pair of Technics 1200’s, slowly teaching himself to mix with the help of some of his resident djs.
Fast forward to the present day and Arkoss has been heavily involved in the London underground music scene. Over the past decade he has hosted his own radio show on one of London’s biggest underground house music stations, and regularly DJs in all the main London venues. Most notable of these venues has been his 5 year residency at Funkinyou in London’s Koko – a venue that has had its stage graced by the likes of Coldplay, Madonna, Prince and dance legends such as Chemical Brothers, Roger Sanchez and Justice. Since 2004, Funkinyou has been creating waves the size of tower blocks in the London club scene and has been a great platform for Arkoss to regularly play out to a 1,500 strong crowd.
His love and passion for music lured Arkoss into the studio where he has been honing his skills, writing and producing music for the past 6 years that will now finally be released on his own label, Funkinyou Records. He has a string of releases that have been tried and tested with goal scoring cheers from the crowd. “Basstrap” and “Strings From Underground”, 2 of his current releases, have had great support from major DJs. Now finally, with Beatport and iTunes distribution secured, Arkoss can share his music and unleash his talent to the world.
Arkoss’ main goal is essentially to be a part of the cause and contribute something significant to the scene he has been a part of for more than a decade through his music, record label, events and DJ sets.
