Audiobooks is a new project formed by the combination of producer David Wrench and Goldsmiths student Evangeline Ling. Together they create dark and damning pop music with plenty of hefty elements. Gothenburg serves as the introduction to Audiobooks, a song we're told the pair "wrote and recorded... on the first day we hung out after meeting by chance the previous night... it captures the energy and excitement at the outset of a creative friendship.” Their particular brand of excitement turns out to be a dim and inebriating one on Gothenburg. With deeply vibrating fibres of synth woven together with industrial staples of pulsating bass, the scene is set for Ling's contorted story to take hold. She sings, whispers and growls her way through Gothenburg, illuminating dark corners when she sings and throwing shadows with her rasps.
