BEN RUSSELL & THE CHARMERS is Kent's most respected feel good reggae band, bursting with harmony and charm! This original reggae and roots band, renowned for it’s unique and vibrant sound are a very talented four piece band. Guitarist and songwriter Ben Russell brings a NEW AGE REGGAE approach supported by his positive energy to combine the indie feel through acoustic and electric sounds. Ben’s passion for music has found him on stages throughout Australia, Canada and the UK and given him the opportunity to perform alongside some of Australia’s top acts. He was the sole driver behind the band Velvetine who’s single ‘Muse’ received airplay on Australia’s national radio stations Triple J and Nova FM. Also the winners of the Australian Garage Band Competition in 2003. While his Charmers, Mel Kocak, an Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts graduate is the bands vocalist/keyboard player. Coming from a theatre background, she has performed at The Marlowe Theatre, and Canterbury Cathedral, just to name a few. Always a lover of reggae, she adds powerful vocal technique and harmony. A Charmer in everyway, Kevin Macleod, is the bands bass player and backing vocalist. Kev is a singer/ songwriter by trade and took up the bass guitar 6 years ago. Previously performed with bands in Scotland and Kent, Overhaul, Some-1-Else, Stranded and Five Floors Up, Kev has now found his secret reggae love. Becca Green is the riddim force behind the band, as one of the original Charmers, she is back to contribute her amazing talent and reggae techniques. Having studied music at Brentton Hall University of Leeds she is a valued drummer/ percussionist/ backing vocalist.
