Ben’s Brother’s silver-selling debut album ‘Beta Male Fairytales’ saw Jamie Hartman playing to massive European festival audiences, scoring top ten hits in countries as far apart as Brazil and Italy, and scooping a prestigious Ivor Novello nomination for ‘best song musically and lyrically’ (‘best song’ to you and me). Throw in a massive US TV ad, a song featured on Grey’s Anatomy, the SXSW music festival and a whole raft of sold out gigs, and you have a pretty busy year.
That was back in 2007, and a lot has changed since then. Economies collapsed, house prices plummeted, jobs were lost and for some, record companies came and went. Second time around, Jamie’s new album ‘Battling Giants’ will be released on his own label, Flat Cap Records, in May 2009.
“I didn’t know it when I wrote it, but Battling Giants became the most relevant song on the new record. It now reflects where I am, making my own record the way I always wanted to – with amazing people I admire – and putting it out on my own label. I’m going my own way. Like a lot of people in the world, I’m facing a 2009 which poses as many questions as answers – with so much change in the music business and the world in general. But I’m also strangely happy and excited about it – and what’s more I just know I’m doing the right thing.” He muses, “We’re all battling giants now, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
