Bivouac

Bivouac are an alternative rock band from Derby, United Kingdom, active from 1990 to 1996. The group forms around Paul Yeadon on vocals and guitar, Granville Marsden on bass and Anthony Hodkinson on drums, with Keith York later joining as drummer. York previously plays in Doctor Phibes And The House Of Wax Equations.

Early releases and rise

The band attracts wider attention in 1993 after a record-company search for a UK act comparable to Nirvana. Its early singles include “Bivouac”, “Slack” from 1992, and “Good Day Song” from 1993. These releases help establish the group’s profile in the UK alternative scene.

Tours and festival appearances

Bivouac supports Fugazi, Therapy? and Sugar, and also co-headlines a tour with Jacob’s Mouse. The band appears at the Phoenix Festival and Reading Festival in 1993. It also tours Europe with the Jesus Lizard, who describe the group as “the best goddam band in Britain”.

Later activity

In 1994, Bivouac tours the US with Seaweed, a band associated with Sub Pop Records. A second album arrives in 1995. After the band’s profile fades, Yeadon later fronts a new group called The Wireless stores.
