The only child of a Polish Mother and Egyptian Father, Magdy Abdel-Rehim is a singer songwriter whose influences are as diverse as his heritage. Educated at an International school yet raised in London, his earliest memories are soundtracked by the very best Blues/Rock from both sides of the pond. Like his childhood hero, Jimi Hendrix, Magdy started his musical career as a sideman to other artists where he gained vast experience and honed his stagecraft until the need to tell his own story (coupled with a prodigious talent on guitar and backing vocals that often outshone his paymasters) led him centre stage. From there he inevitably ventured into the previously uncharted waters of songwriting. Locked away with an acoustic and a pen, an intense and fruitful spell followed. The concept of Cairo Son had been born and with the addition of bass and drums - the classic 3 piece being the only line up Magdy could ever envisage for his music - Cairo Son, the band, became reality. As happy pickpocketing the flair and grit of Hendrix, Zeppelin and AC/DC as he is reconstructing the metal sound those bands had themselves influenced, Cairo Son makes a shameless nod to the quality of the past and sidesteps the mediocrity of the present. The band creates a sound for the future that’s fresh, instant and utterly unwavering in its intent. Hard, riff-heavy and lyrically brutally honest, Cairo Son will restore the faith you’ve lost in music.
