Charlie Cooper is a Manchester based soul singer who writes songs combining elements of soul and jazz, singing with a deep and husky soulful voice. The songwriting is approached with the same rootsy realism and honesty as Bill Withers accompanied with grooves akin to Bill, Stevie Wonder and old school Stax and Motown alongside luscious musical arrangements. Covering the usual topics of love and relationships but also the not so typical topics of religion and addiction, Charlie invites you in for a glimpse into her mind and her world, whilst her band ("The CC's") kick it like Booker T and the MGs. Charlie first came to the attention of an A&R man from a major label aged 18, the label executive wanted her to do a modern take on Karen Carpenter but decided that Charlie lacked the confidence to make it as an artist. Years later, armed with a degree in philosophy and years of experience paying her dues as a function singer, Charlie has gotten a little older and wiser. She has been writing new material for a forthcoming EP set to introduce her to the world as a formidable songwriting talent and a vocal force to be reckoned with. Backed by a wealth of talented Manchester musicians, Charlie's live performances are said to be extravagantly musical, rich in energy and emotion. So despite the archetypal music moguls advice, Charlie is making music true to herself, conveying a message that is her own. In an industry where the likes of Adele and Michael Kiwanuka have shown us that real music is back, it's an opportune moment to introduce you to Miss Charlie Cooper.
