There are two bands known as Chores: 1.) Fuzzy pop band from Melbourne. Tristan Barlow is from Adelaide, he used to be in the bands “Vice Pirate” and “Roach Coach”, and he started writing songs on an acoustic guitar whilst living on Vancouver Island, brewing beer. On moving back to Australia in early 2014, Tristan elected to put a band together to play these songs, and recruited former Brisbanite Nick Smethurst (Epithets, Little Scout, Bigstrongbrute, Mr Maps) on bass and recent Chicago ex-pat Paul Brannon (Mucca Pazza, -Ssion) on drumbos. 2.) Chores is a band from Portland, Oregon. Chores is a band without pretensions. It's just four people who love music and hate work. To balance the realities of the inevitable disappointments of life in their late twenties, they temporarily stopped bitching and started communicating their frustrations through wild instrumentation in a cramped, dank basement, a few times a week. Inspired by the sonic landscapes of Oneida and Yo La Tengo, and the lyrical poetics of Jonathan Richman and Kristin Hersh, Chores writes their songs as a group, coupling noisy guitar riffs with more straightforward rock sensibilities.
