Chutes started in January 2011 when we released our first 3 track E.P. 'I pulled the cord but we're still falling' produced by Dan Lucas at Anchor Baby Studios.
The E.P.received a great response and the tracks gained instant support from the likes of BBC Kent Introducing and Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank who played 'battles' on his 'tipped for the tops' programme.
After the dust had settled from the E.P. (and some of our A level exams) we went on to release our début single 'Brighten Up' in June 2011 which again received a very warm reception going straight to 'Hottest Record' on BBC Kent Introducing.
In July we embarked on our first U.K. tour! After a hesitant start (and the sad demise of our wonderful van) things went swimmingly and we had the privilege of finishing the tour at Lounge on the Farm festival where we opened the main stage!
In the wake of a wonderful summer we then entered the studio again with the wonderful Mr Lucas, to record our new E.P. The new record will be released very soon and we honestly think you'll love it! We've also had the privilege of collaborating with Mr Richard Murrells, and NSPCC Childline on this release so KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED!
These are some things people have said about us:
"This band need to get places because they're really very talented and some guys I can guarantee I'll be listening to for years to come. Their music, personalities, photography, likability and hearts are all on show and they're some people to really keep your eyes and ears peeled for!!" - Tigers, Lions & Bears
"‘Brighten Up’ opens with an impeccable accapella harmony of the main lyric that forms the basis of the choruses (‘the weather’s been cold outside and it’s not going to brighten up’) before plunging headlong into clean, choppy guitars and pounding drums reminiscent of the current wave of indie bands, The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club and, more locally, the now defunct Silver Foxes all spring to mind. Catchy sing-along melodies are rife throughout with call and response between the two vocalists. Josie Matcham’s voice has the power and depth of Adele but with an Eliza Carthy folk edge to it which complements the male vocals on this track beautifully." - Rock Kent
"Throughout Chutes' songs, there may be gloominess in the lyrics, but that doesn't stop them from knocking out a decent tune. Maybe life isn't that bad after all. The result is a set of dark songs for people who like their music a little lighter. If that makes any sense at all. I think it does." - Steve Morris (Kent Introducing Listener)
"Chutes, thanks for randomly stumbling into my life and dragging my arse down to the basement at The Workshop. Simply awesome set." - Shane Pereira
