Not much is known of the enigmatic North London-based singer Claudia Kane, but if her debut single, “Residents of Darkness” is anything to go by that won’t be the case for long. The charismatic musician mixes dark disco with haunting vocals, sounding somewhere between Nancy Sinatra and Florence and the Machine via a 1950s cabaret. And with exactly that mix Claudia Kane manages to press the better-than-decent-pop-that-you-could-dance-to ‘in da club’ button. One reason for that might be that according to her writing typical love songs is not quite her thing. She does however write about matters of the heart but not from the point of view of being ‘in love’. She prefers to write about the insecurities of being in a relationship or the end of the relationship but none of the nice stuff in between.
