Courtney Askey is a singer songwriter hailing from the city of Leicester. She has been prolifically writing and recording material since the tender age of fifteen and started playing live in her hometown at sixteen. Bucking the trend of the archetypal acoustic troubadour’s traditional subjects of love and loss, Courtney writes in her own words, songs about, ‘Going for coffee and doing nothing’. That is not to say that there is no depth to her lyrics, which captivate and amuse in equal measure. The words, when married to her honey coated vocal, draw the listener in with the warmth and infectious charm of her delivery. Courtney cites her musical influences as Frank Sinatra and The Cure and all points in between. Indeed, she has covered an eclectic mix of songs from Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ through to the gothic blues rock of Murder by Death’s ‘Comin’ Home’. She is constantly striving to cross genres and produce an increasingly interesting and diverse range of music.
