Dan Blake has established himself as a positive force in many areas of creative music. His versatility and ecclectic interests have allowed him to develop a career as a performing saxophonist, produce premiers of all of his compositions, and have led to the founding of several influential organizations in the Boston area. He first realized a need to study composition seriously during his third year as a double-degree student at Tufts University and The New England Conservatory of Music, studying under John McDonald and Steve Lacy. He has had many premiers while at Tufts and during his time in Boston and New York as a working professional. In 2006, Mr. Blake was received ASCAP's Young Composer's Award for his recently released debut recording "The Party Suite", which has garnered significant attention in the jazz press. For the past two years, Blake has founded and led a weekly workshop dedicated to the development and promoting of creative music, both improvised and notated, acoustic and electronic. Upon relocating to Brooklyn in August 2006, Dan Blake plans to continue his studies in composition at The Conservatory at Brooklyn College under Tania León, where he will also serve as Adjunct Lecturer in music theory.
