Danú is an Irish traditional music band based in County Waterford, Ireland. First meeting in Waterford in 1994, it was after performing in the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in 2005 that the group decided to consolidate as a band. They play both traditional and original tunes and bring much energy to their music. Danu features Benny McCarthy on accordion, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh on vocals and tin whistle, Tom Doorley on flutes, whistles, and vocals, Eamon Doorley on bouzouki and fiddle, Donnchadh Gough on bodhran and uilleann pipes, Dónal Clancy on guitar, and Oisin McAuley on fiddle and vocals. Danú's second album, Think Before You Think (2000) was voted Best Overall Traditional Act by Dublin's magazine Irish Music. They have been voted Best Traditional Group twice in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the only band to achieve such a feat. Their version of Co. Down (written by Tommy Sands) won Best Traditional Song in the same awards.
