There is more than one band associated with the name Dinosaur: 1. New York-based avant-garde cellist/composer Arthur Russell formed Dinosaur in the late Seventies, and released the first disco single on Sire in 1979. That single was "Kiss Me Again", which featured David Byrne on guitar and Myriam Naomi Valle on vocals. Whilst not a commercial hit, it soon became an underground classic, due to it being championed by Larry Levan of Paradise Garage. 2. Dinosaur Jr were formed as Dinosaur in 1983 in Amherst, Massachusetts by J Mascis (guitar and vocals) and his high school classmate Lou Barlow (bass guitar), following the break-up of their hardcore punk band Deep Wound. Shortly afterwards, Murph (Emmett Patrick Murphy, drums) joined them. They changed their name following the release of their debut, Dinosaur (1985), when another band called The Dinosaurs, featuring ex-members of Country Joe and the Fish and Jefferson Airplane, threatened them with legal action. 3. A Thrash Metal band from Portugal, formed in 1989. 4. Dinosaur - led by trumpeter & composer Laura Jurd and featuring keyboardist Elliot Galvin, bassist Conor Chaplin and drummer Corrie Dick - are signed with British label, Edition Records, and released debut album ‘Together, As One’, in September 2016.
