Donald was brought up in the village of RoyBridge in Lochaber and it was there that his passion for music was first fuelled. He now lives in Sheffield and has worked with a diverse variety of musicians including Catriona McKay, Kate Rusby, Roy Bailey, Alistair Anderson, Luke Daniels, Jenna Reid, The Geoff Gascoyne Project, The Elias Quartet, Niccola Benedetti and others. He attended Feisan nan Gaidheal and Sabhal Mor Ostaig for many years and was winner numerous times at the National Mod in Scotland and also at the Pan Celtic Festival in Ireland. He has played across the UK in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Queens Hall, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, The Sage, Bridgewater Hall and Southbank Centre, at festivals such as Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival, Oxford Folk Festival and the Belfast, Cheltenham and Bath Festivals, and in countries including France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, the USA, and will soon tour Australia. “The Way Home” is his debut solo album and was produced by Seamus Egan (Solas). Containing almost entirely self-penned material it features some of Donald’s long term collaborators, a Gaelic song co-written with his Dad and sung by Karen Matheson (Capercaillie), and the string section “Red Skies".
