Emmet Scanlan & What the Good Thought are an Independent music act whose music veers away from the usual yet is embraced by the majority of those who hear it. Emmet formed the group 'Emmet Scanlan & What the Good Thought' in the Summer of 2004. With a head full of song ideas upon returning from a bit globe trekking, Emmet decided to set up camp in Galway and gather a band to showcase some of these ideas. Galway was the most natural choice for him is he had spent the 4 years previous studying science in the University. Of course, music was the next obvious step! It was across the bar counter of Galways Tig Neactain that Emmet gathered his diverse line-up. He was and still is working there and the folk that are now make up 'What the Good Thought' frequented the spot from time to time. The band are all from different countries and the instrumentation is a tad unusual, but it seems to do the trick. They are as follows Emmet Scanlan - Guitar/Vocals (Ireland) Alan Preims - Percussion (Italy) Peter Akerstrom - Classical Guitar/ Bass (Sweden) Nicola Geddes - Cello (Scotland) Over the course of the last few years the band have gone from strength to strength, both at home in Ireland and abroad. They have sold over 2,000 copies of their self-released EP since 2006. They have played at numerous prestigious festivals in Ireland including The Electric Picnic and The Galway Arts Festival. Emmet toured in America with Galways own Saw Doctors in the Summer of 2007 and in February of 2008 they were the only Irish act invited to perform at the 20th International Folk Alliance Music Conference in Memphis, Tennessee.
