In the year of 1997, Ethereal is assembled in Setubal (Portugal), by the vocalist/lyricist Hugo Soares. At that time, the first musical ideas start to shape and form, as the definitive line-up is gathered in 1998: Miguel Ledo on drums, Carlos Monteiro and Marco Agostinho both on guitars, Mário Serrano on keyboards, and Jorge Bentes on bass guitar.
During 1999, the band performs a vast number of gigs, at Music Contests, bars and other venues. In of those contests, Ethereal is prized the best band among fifteen other, and Hugo S. the best vocalist.
By the end of 99, the band records the ``Shades of Sadness EP`` at the well-known TchaTchaTcha Studios. The EP features 3 tracks: ``Mistress``, ``Shades of Sadness`` and ``A Dead Remembrance``.
In 2000, yet another busy tour calendar for Ethereal. The EP is press-promoted and reviewed at national scale radio shows, mags and fanzines, and even got to be interviewed live at a TV show, along with Moonspell.
In 2001, entwined with occasional live performances, Ethereal starts to prepare the tracklist that will feature their debut, and signs with the recently created label Progress Music for the releasing of two albums. In December, the band goes studio again for the recordings of ``The Dreams of Yearning``, a conceptual album with 11 tracks, with the length of 61 minutes.
After the release of “The Dreams of Yearning” album, Nuno Pita joined the band on keyboards; later on Cristina Lopes, former guest singer, joined the band on vocals, as the recording of their most recent album took place.
Released on the 13th of January of 2006, “Towers of Isolation” is also a conceptual album, with 10 tracks, resuming the story told on Ethereal’s former album. Nuno Pita has since left the band. The “Towers of Isolation” Tour started on March of 2006 and is still on the road. The recent departure of Carlos Monteiro, left the band in search for a new guitarist, but still playing.

7) What do you get when you mix Scandinavian melodies, American attitude and a group of young guys trying to give their parents a hard time?
ETHEREAL started out in 2004, when Michiel and Uri decided it was time to shake up kindergarten. It took them till November 2005 to get all the pieces together, when Daniel and Jorn joined the group, but after that it took little time to let some local stages rock. When Dave joined in September 2006, it was time to take things to another level.
With deafening riffs, virtuoso synths you’ve never heard before, pounding baselines, bone crushing rhythms and a voice that sounds like way to much Jack’s and Johnny’s, an ETHEREAL show is not about just seeing a band: it’s an experience. You try to stand still when you almost get struck in the face by an old telephone, with five people on stage banging their heads non-stop like a set of Bobbleheads.
Their first demo (the title of which has yet to be determined) will finally be released very soon. After that, things will only get bigger, heavier and more devastating. You better watch your back!
