Etta Marcus (born 26 January 2001) is an English alternative singer, songwriter and musician from London. Marcus was born and raised in Brixton, South London, where she indulged herself in the area's rich music culture from a young age. Etta began playing musical instruments from a young age, starting piano at the age of eight and her preferred instrument - the guitar, at the age of ten. Marcus made her breakthrough in October 2021 with the release of her debut single 'Hide & Seek', which earned her praise for her songwriting and vocal range, as well as the track's dreamy sound. Her second single 'Salt Lake City', a collaboration with English indie artist Matt Maltese, arrived a month later on the 12th of November. The track also received widespread praise. On 21 January 2022, Etta Marcus released her debut EP, 'View from the Bridge' , a project described as "a sonic world of haunting yet romantic melodies". Over the course of five songs, Marcus created an array of captivating and dark guitar ballads. In February 2022, Marcus would tour her new EP, performing as a support act to Matt Maltese during his shows in the UK and then to alternative pop singer-songwriter Tom Odell for most of the UK leg of his 'monsters' world tour. A highlight of this tour for her was opening at the O2 Academy in her hometown on the 24th of February. Following the success of View from the Bridge, Etta released her follow-up singles 'Crown' and ‘Nosebleed’ in August and October respectively through Polydor Records. Her second EP, ‘Heart-Shaped Bruise’ was released on January 13 2023, which saw the introduction of stringed elements into her sound. Following the release of Heart-Shaped Bruise, Etta will embark on the 'Heart-Shaped Bruise' Tour, her first headline UK tour from 1-10 March. Having grown up in a town with such a diverse music culture, Etta Marcus was always going to have a wide array of influences. Some of these include Everything But The Girl, Alex Turner, Jeff Buckley, Mazzy Star and Joni Mitchell amongst many others.
