Frett is the solo project of, 19 year old, Simon Lucas-Hughes from Suffolk. EP1 – his first work draws upon a fine blend of angular guitar and a contribution to the electronic genre. The music is skillfully recorded and produced at home with a brooding intensity. The songs mix a quirky but balanced instrumentation with cutting guitars and a beautiful, soft and aching vocal. The songs, deeply personal with a sarcastic and colourful edge that is reminiscent of Thom Yorke blended with The Strokes. ‘Expectation’ is the EP’s first single – from the very start there is a mixture of quirky, overlapping instruments underneath a yearning vocal. This leads to a planet-sized falsetto chorus that hooks you and reels you in. The jagged guitars expand the depth of frustration that permeates the song. ‘Copy Cat’ is a song that cannot hide its anger and combines a bitter edge of sarcasm with a light twang of humour. It is possible to read much in to this song, it could be about love, hate, loss, anger etc - draw from it with your own experience… As well as constant writing and experimentation with new songs Frett has been making remixes of both his own work and of other musicians. Frett intends to become an ever evolving, inspirational force on the UK music scene. Frett has played live sessions for BBC Radio and being played on BBC Radio 1 several times. and has been writing and recording music for two years and has performed live at venues all over the UK.
