Balkan-folk cockney's you say? This original amalgamation of Eastern European alt-folk and gypsy-jig jazz driven by a distinctly London wisp sets an oddly eclectic scene. There’s a fertile seam of musical overlap between punk, ska and the Balkans. Gorgeous George mine it expertly, with a great deal of energy and panache. Bass, bouzouki and fiddle are prominent, as are declamatory cockney vocals, delivering some extremely funny and intelligent lyrics. This band is one of the best things I’ve heard in a long time: totally infectious, kinetic music, nuanced and precise playing, tons of creativity and hugely entertaining.
