Since 2010 this young garage rock band from Swansea has been entertaining audiences during their lively shows whilst impressing listeners over the airwaves. Their short and to-the-point pop songs feature powerful vocals, earning Karen O comparisons, whilst layers of fuzz and constant groove keep listeners moving..
In 2012 their demo track ‘Deathproof’, which appeared on Sweeping The Nations’ ‘Doesn’t Your Balloon Ever Land?’ compilation, was picked up by Adam Walton who played it numerous times throughout the year including during his best of 2012-so-far show. This also led to them headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at Wychwood Festival as well as a set at the Focus Wales Festival. They hope to enter the studio soon and continue to gig whenever possible.

“If Heavy Petting Zoo were from east London rather than Swansea you'd have heard far too much about them by now. Yes, it's lo-fi garage, but only the demo quality recording suggests deliberate overfuzz of their coiled spring garage, economical unshowy riffage framing Amy Zachariah's Karen O-like holler. The rest of their recordings range from messy hiss to cocksure menace, all with its own frames of reference and internalised power.” (Sweeping The Nation blog)
“Muddy guitar riffs; swampy, tinny drums; distorted, sexy female vocals simmering with reverb. It may sound rough around the edges, but everything’s in place to make these fellas and ladies a post-punk-garage-rock wet dream. It’s vaguely reminiscent of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with all the stomp of the seventies thrown in for good measure.” (The Miniature Music Press)
“I’m listening for moments of excitement and for people who just completely convince you that they’re ace and this band have done that.
“Just great. It has got a kind of unbridled sexual energy to it. It has the kind of blues-mojo thing within it.
“Great music is 50% spirit, 40% atmosphere and 10% is the ability to play an instrument and they get that completely. That’s just an utterly compulsive, compelling demo, for crying out loud! (Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales DJ)
"Lo-fi garage, fuzz, awesome guitars, KAREN O-like hollering – one of South Wales’ most exciting new bands!" (Undertone, Cardiff music venue)
