With a name like Hotel, you’d be right to expect some horror vibes, and the rapper delivers on that promise with his new song “Hell Bound.” The Memphis MC is all threats and hell-raising, but delivered in a nonchalant manner, dropping nightmarish lines like, “I see the signs, I’m not worried/ What are they doing that’s better/ Might write his mother a letter/ Tell her she should have done better” as if he were ordering fries. Hotel’s flow is interspersed with a practiced breathing pattern that’s so consistent that the spaces in between bars become a rhythmic presence in their own right. A scratchy synth from producer Young Antho hovers over the whole thing like an oil slick, paired with a deep undercurrent of bass.
