Jacobean Ruff is comprised of five friends from Leeds, UK. Scott Bulmer: Percussion Aaron Collins-Wood: Bass / Mandolin Sophie Elmieh: Vocals / Bass Sophie Pearson: Vocals / Guitar / Banjo Jed Timms: Guitar / Violin After playing music in other bands and other forms for most of their lives, they got together to form Jacobean Ruff in late 2011, arriving at their current lineup in June 2012. As they discovered their new style, they picked up the mandolin, banjo, violin, occasional melodica and sometimes more instruments to support the way their music was going. They have been growing in stature and demand ever since they first began, playing established Leeds venues such as Oporto, the Brudenell, Nation of Shopkeepers and the Hop, and have entered the Festival circuit, playing Beacons, Live At Leeds and Tockwith Festival, among others. Their song 'Family' was even chosen to air on Radio 1 in January 2013 through BBC Introducing. Their sound has been described as 'an exciting mix of thoughtful, traditional folk styles and clever pop songwriting' by Communion Leeds.
