Jay Jay Pistolet is a recording name of British singer-songwriter Justin James Hayward-Young, formerly of the Eldora Parade and now with The Vaccines. Pistolet is from the New Forest, Hampshire, but is now London-based. He has played supporting Noah and the Whale, Slow Club and Katie Melua, and performs either solo or with his backing band (featuring Mumford And Sons singer Marcus Mumford). He generally plays the guitar, but also ventures out with a mandolin or piano. He has released one single, We Are Free (on Chess Club Records) and one EP, Happy Birthday You (on Stiff Records), but many more demos are floating around on the internet. The Guardian featured him in its New band of the day section. On a myspace blog post on 24 September, Hayward-Young announced the end (for the foreseeable future) of his recording as Jay Jay Pistolet: "for now, im laying down my acoustic guitar. that is to say, i will not be playing shows or releasing material as jay jay pistolet in the near future. change is upon us but death is not. ill be back. for now though im concentrating on a new musical project that will take me in an entirely new direction. im incredibly excited. stay tuned..." Justin Young has recently burst onto the scene again with his new project The Vaccines who have a deal with Columbia records and are now touring. They have had appearances on Later with Jools Holland and featured heavily with Zane Lowe, pronouncing the band would "kickstart a new era". http://www.myspace.com/jayjaypistolet
