There are at least one composer and two artists recording under the name John Ward: 1) An English composer (1571-1638) from the late Renaissance, who is most famous for his madrigals (which are surprisingly serious) and viol music. 2) The creator of the album "After Hours Songs & Others" 3) A founding member of the band SubDub, who also released a "solo" project in 2000 under the name Intrinsic Sky SoundSystem. Titled "Guru Yoga", the album features Tibetan chants performed by Penor Rinpoche (then-head of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism). Ward's music, co-produced by Philadelphia DJ Dr.Jesus, builds around the original field recordings, focusing on an ambient feel for the first third, and a more danceable sound on the last third. The middle section is entirely composed of unacompanied chanting, in Tibetan, by Rinpoche, and was intended as a daily practice guide for students of the Palyul lineage that Rinpoche heads to this day.
