SINGER, SONGWRITER, RAPPER, AND VISIONARY DIRECTOR FROM COLOMBIA, SOUTH AMERICA TO VIRGINIA, USA. You may have never heard the name Kali Uchis before, but that doesn't mean she's not on the radar. After releasing her self-produced first mixtape last year, she got the attention of the likes of Diplo and Snoop Dogg for her eclectic, hard to classify sound. With influences from her home country of Colombia, the young Virginia-based talent is carving out her own niche, one that she is exemplifying through the releases leading up to her new EP, Por Vida. Today, Uchis has premiered with us a visual that she shot and edited along her travels to Los Angeles, New York and Colombia while recording new music. The soundtrack to the montage includes snippets of three unreleased, JFK-produced tracks from the EP, which is due out in early 2014. With influences ranging from doo-wop to reggae and early ’00s R&B, Uchis’s freshman release is an eclectic piece of condensed lazy afternoon, complete with pot smoke wafting in the summer breeze. www.KALIUCHIS.com https://twitter.com/KALIUCHIS
