Kushti was a side project for erstwhile Black Dog affiliates Plaid, consisting of members Ed Handley and Andrew Turner. They debuted with the Freestyle EP on the Octopus label in 1995, which established this project's output as a excursion into eclectic, sample-based music – as opposed to Plaid's more familiar, electronic textures. From here they would release a couple of EPs, including Lifers in 1996, and Taking Hold in 1999, along with an album Secret Handshakes, from which the latter single was lifted. Aside from this, they also supplied a remix, the Method Man sampling Drop Tha' Joint remix for Paul Hunter, on the 1996 Further Thoughts and Freedoms EP on Soma offshoot Fith Freedom, as well as a remix of Jack by Statik Sound System, on Bristol's Cup of Tea records (1997).
