Melesha O’ggaro was a mere 11 years old when she started to write lyrics after being inspired by mc’s in the then booming UK Garage scene. A born performer and natural lyricist she took too the underground circuit, and whilst still at school, at age 16 she released her first mixtape titled ‘Needle in a Haystack’, a project that she managed and funded herself, from the recording to the advertising, distribution and sales.
Adopting the stage name Lady Leshurr, she has performed all over the UK from local rap battles to the more prestigious Sidewinder. In 2007 she entered and won ‘UK Best Unsigned Female’, where she battled it out with various urban acts across the UK. Her colourful performances, thought provoking lyrics and sheer stage ‘energy’ blew away the competition and in August 2008 she was signed to UK Independent label Colourful State the home of Grime legend ‘Low Deep’. Whilst supporting Low Deep’s promotional tour for his debut album ‘Unsung’, Leshurr began to gain even more recognition, performing on BBC 1xtra, Kiss FM and BBC Asia Network. Her fan base grew exponentially, and people outside of the grime scene began to recognise her musical diversity, leading to collaborations with the KrayTwinz and Baby J.
Having just released her free mixtape ‘The Last Second’, the 25-track feature clearly demonstrates her versatility in the urban music genre. A Mixture of RnB, Hip-Hop, Grime and Bashment tracks, and including her much hyped ‘A Millie’ Freestyle; it’s already spreading through the Internet like wild fire and can be downloaded for free at www.myspace.com/ladyleshurr.
Not content to rest with her mixtape release, Leshurr is currently busy in the studio recording her debut album ‘Every Little Counts’, collaborating with artist such as Dot Rotten, P Money, Badness and Purple to name a few, and beats provided by Low Deep, Swindle and Grime’s newest production force The Beat Creatures, the album is promising to be a huge success. This electric new talent is currently tearing down the airwaves and infecting the Internet with her music, watch out for her in 2009 and be sure to download her free mixtape in the meantime!
