Laurence Made Me Cry is songstress, artist and multi-instrumentalist Jo Whitby. There’s an odd familiarity about Whitby’s music. Her songs bring with them a sense of timelessness and warmth like meeting up with an old friend. Whitby currently resides in Glasgow, Scotland. In recent years Laurence Made Me Cry has performed at Sŵn, Wales Goes Pop and Green Man Festival as well as making it on to Glastonbury’s 2013 Emerging Talent longlist. As LMMC Whitby has supported the likes of Gulp, Rachel Sermanni and Meursault and having received the Musicians Benevolent Fund ‘Emerging Excellence Award’ in February 2013 she headed out on her first tour around the UK. Her debut ‘The Diary Of Me’, a worldwide collaborative record made possible by a successful crowd-funding project, received support from the likes of BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music. The record was also nominated for the Welsh Music Prize in 2013 alongside Neon Neon, Zervas and Pepper and Georgia Ruth. 'The Diary Of Me' features contributions from artists such as Pulco, Freddie Nunez and Salwa Azar – the album is a reflective and intimate exploration, a truly interactive journey taken by all the participants – collaborators and listeners alike. Laurence Made Me Cry now features on diverse independent label Folkwit’s roster, alongside Pulco, Cymbient, Joyce the Librarian, No Thee No Ess and Snippet. The future looks exciting for LMMC with more studio and live collaborations in the wings.
