Lei Di Dai

Lei Di Dai is a singer-songwriter and DJ from São Paulo, associated with reggae and dancehall. Also known as Daiane, she is described as coming from São Paulo’s east side and as an artist rooted in the city’s black community. Her work centres on themes of unity, liberation, harmony and love, with a stated message of fighting “Babylon” through music.

She has been active for more than ten years and performs live with the backing band QG Imperial. She also appears with Brazilian and international sound systems and artists. Her style is linked to dancehall, and she is presented as a leading figure in that scene.

Lei Di Dai is included on the diaspora riddim release produced by Digitaldubs, Nelson Meirelles and MPC in Rio de Janeiro, alongside other international singers. She also appears in an exclusive feature in the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone, following attention from Ricardo Cruz, one of the magazine’s editors. An interview in a newspaper also leads to more bookings and wider recognition for her reggae work.
