Lia Mice’s live sets incorporate custom designed instruments and live voice sampling, bringing new dimensions to the analog sampler live set. She has performed live in the UK and internationally at venues including The Tate Modern London, The Museum of Arts and Design New York, and WOMB Nightclub Tokyo. Her high energy vinyl-hybrid DJ sets incorporate experimental live sampling across electro, italo, tech noir, acid and weird-dance. She is the resident DJ at ElectrolightsAV and is a PhD student in Media and Arts Technology at the Augmented Instruments Laboratory, Queen Mary London. Drawing inspiration from electronic pioneers BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Laurie Anderson, Harald Grosskopf and Suzanne Ciani and analog hardware live performers Laurel Halo, Karen Gwyer and Aïsha Devi, her unique production is the result of years of experiments with a wide range of technology from analog samplers, to Max/MSP, to self-hacked instruments, to 8-track tape. Her third solo LP, The Sampler As A Time Machine (Optimo Music), is a selection of experimental dance-wavey-industrial-parallel-dimension-pop tracks informed by experiments conducted on analog samplers.
