Locked Groove

Locked Groove is the performance name of Tim van de Meutter, a Belgian electronic music producer from Wilrijk, Belgium, born in 1988. He works in techno, house, ambient electronic, trance and leftfield house, and is associated with the label Locked Groove Records.

Style and development

His music combines bass music with techno and house, and he is known for moving between styles including big room, Berghain-style techno and deep house. His approach places emphasis on rhythm and melody, with productions that draw on club music traditions while also taking cues from 1990s rave culture in Belgium and, more subtly, the UK.

He begins developing his own hybrid sound in early 2011, blending industrial techno with melancholic deep house. He also has training as a classical pianist, which informs the musicality of his productions and his use of complex rhythms.

Career

Scuba selects his track “Drowning” for the DJ Kicks series, and this leads to a debut release on Hotflush Recordings in 2012. From that point, he continues to broaden his sound across different electronic genres while keeping a focus on dancefloor-oriented production.
