T’was a cold and wintry evening in January 2002, in the quaint Welsh metropolis once known as Cardiff City. Women were sweeping their doorsteps; children huddled up near the fireplace, playing with their new toy soldiers and dolls, which Santa Claus had kindly brought them for Christmas. All was quiet. Church bells rang faintly in the distance. Cardiff, and the world were at peace, never even dreaming that their safe little world was teetering on the edge of total chaos. Four young delinquents, armed with flagons of cider, bought for £2.09 in the local spar, carried their shiny instruments into a small “soundproof” shed. One, exquisitely dressed and clutching a ragged looking microphone, introduced himself as The Good Reverend and claimed to be a man of the cloth. Another man with wild eyes and blood on his hands held a clean white bass guitar. He introduced himself as Doctor Ryan. A small hermit looking creature dug up through the ground with a pair of sticks in his mouth. A strong smell of whisky filled the room as he grunted and mumbled something angrily. The only thing anyone was able to make out is the word “Nurse”. It is assumed to be his name. A generic punk caricature was busily breaking and replacing guitar strings to his axe, in the corner of the room. He never said a word, and changed his name and appearance many times over the years. This phantom guitar player now travels under the guise of Handsome Ad. The four raised their flagons towards the roof of ‘The Studio’ and drank. A crash of lightning, a roar of flames, men fainted and women creamed. May Contain Nuts was born… After hundreds of shows around the UK and the release of several EPs, the first full-length studio album from May Contain Nuts, entitled "Zombies and Missiles... AND FIRE!!" (named after the band's worst fears), was finally self-released on December 21st 2006 at a sold out show in Barfly, Cardiff. The album is available to buy online, at all the band's shows and in Spillers Records in Cardiff. May Contain Nuts celebrated their fifth birthday in January 2007 and are planning on pushing the band big this summer with a long summer tour which also includes some festival appearences. MCN are currently writing material for a follow up album and are in the process of demoing some new tracks.
