The two guitarists happened to meet on the day they both arrived in Edinburgh after leaving their home countries, and discovered a musical chemistry strong enough to start a band. One reported back with a singer-songwriter on the strength of her first open mic performance, one with a cellist on the strength of what he was carrying up the street. The line-up was recently completed with the addition of a percussionist and, after a year's songwriting and hard work, mayhew's sound is becoming compelling and accomplished. They aim to make their songs unique through the technical interplay of classical and folk guitars, soaring cello harmonies and distinctive vocals and lyrics. mayhew now have roughly an album’s worth of songs written and are planning to record their debut EP shortly.
