MINI DA MINX
Electro/ Breakbeat DJ with a deep passion for a bass line, here’s a girl who is not scared to mix it up with all kinds of funky sh*t !! Minxy is also establishing herself as a fledgling record producer. Her latest remix for Mr Bong –“Kold Produk” on Break Record label, came out last year.
At the last two editions of Glastonbury festival, Da’ Minx cemented her party credentials, with 6 prime time sets at the legendary Mutoid Waste Company’s “The Unfair Ground”, voted the best field of Glastonbury by the Telegraph. Playing sets after Rudimental, Elite Force and Mr Carl Cox himself!
The Firestarter Mix is a tribute to The Prodigy, who had a huge impact on my sound ever since I’ve discovered them at the tender age of 12. The Firestarter is also celebrating my first gig at the Burning Man festival this year –yeah baby! Here is to a wonderful festival summer!
Originally from the Czech Republic with Russian blood, Mini Da Minx honed her craft DJ-ing in Cape Town. Early signs of a latent talent however were evident when she set up a school radio station – playing the likes of The Prodigy and at the tender age of 15 she became an active member of the Czech Pirate station “RADIO FREEDOM”.
After a move to Cape Town in 2002 she was pushing Breaks and Underground tunes onto the South African music scene where she worked with African Dope Records hosting numerous events, including Chix in da’ Mix. Making an impact with her versatility and original style she began playing prime time sets alongside such industry heavyweights as Freq Nasty, Dj Vadim and Pascal at some of South Africa’s biggest festivals – Oppi Koppi, The Cape Town and OBS Festivals. Still involved in radio, but now running her own show, Breaking Point, but this time world wide on Mutha FM. At this time a busy dj-ing schedule included tours of Europe, playing Paris, Edinburgh, Germany and Czech and this led to a move to the British Capital.
Since her move to London 7 years ago Mini Da’ Minx has became a regular player on the UK scene. 2008 saw her begin something of a residency at the Mutoid Waste Company’s events, playing at their Mutate Britain exhibitions and including peak-time sets at every Glastonbury Unfair Ground and it’s previous incarnation Trash City. If you look really hard you can even see her riding on the back of a mechanical Mutoid dinosaur in the Paralympics Closing Ceremony 2012!!
The last 6 years have also witnessed a succession of unforgettable all-day events marking Camden’s Lockside Lounge Summer BBQ season. “Sunset Showdown”, “The Last Party of the Summer” etc – have all been CHIX In da’ MIX presentations (continuing the female Artist and Dj collaborative events initiated in Cape Town 2003) featuring such talented individuals as Flore, Janette Slack and Toni Jarvis.
Mini Da’ Minx continues to assault the airwaves with a divine sonic selection as a guest on Rough Tempo Radio and also continue her forays into production working alongside producers such as Vlad (TCR) and Wreckage (Wall of Sound).
More recently she has played at the prestigious International Breakbeat Awards, legendary TCR BBQ, and at Krafty Kuts’ popular night in London.
Czech it out!
