There are two bands/artists with the name Minty. In 1993 performance artist and fashion designer Leigh Bowery formed the band Minty with friend and former 80's knitwear designer Richard Torry, Nicola Bateman and Matthew Glamorre. Their controversial single "Useless Man" along with their twisted onstage scatological performances caused The Sun newspaper to describe them as the "Sickest band in the world", of which Leigh was very proud. During 1994 Leigh performed the "Fete worse than death" in Hoxton Square, Leigh and Nicola Bateman (later, Nicola Bowery) showed their classic "Birth Show", a homage to John Walters' Desperate Living, in which Leigh gives birth to Nicola, using a specially designed harness which holds her upside down to his belly under his costume. Minty is also a 1998 Australian / British comedy television series, in which Australian actress Angela Kelly appeared in the dual roles of Minty and Melanie (an Australian girl and an English girl who are identical in appearance). The show released a CD featuring the hit songs sang by Minty (Angela Kelly) on the show.
