Owl In The Sun play original melody-driven songs rooted in folky Americana and gypsy jazz, combining acoustic instruments with rich vocal harmonies. The band has been making a splash in the West Country since the release of its debut album "Outside the City Way of Things" in 2010, described by Bob Harris on BBCR2 as ‘absolutely lovely’, and The Culture Show’s Mark Kermode as ‘A lovely album of songs which are wittily written, artfully arranged and niftily played’. The band's second album, 'Black House', was released on 10th December 2012, following EP 'Tales of the Black House' in spring 2012. All are available on iTunes and www.owlinthesun.com. Track ‘Flags’ was selected for airplay on Radio 1 by BBC Introducing in March 2011 (‘absolutely gorgeous!’ - Fearne Cotton). Following this the band were invited to perform on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury in June 2011, with TV broadcast via BBC Glastonbury red button coverage. Live highlights include the Larmer Tree Festival, Purbeck Folk Festival, Communion Music, Bristol Acoustic Music Festival and Glastonbury Emerging Talent Showcase & BBC Introducing Stage. Radio highlights include Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, The Bob Harris Show BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Bristol, BCFM, and BBC Radio Solent (live session with Johnnie Walker). The band was also finalist for the Isambard Nu-Folk Award 2011 and the UK Songwriting Competition.
