They probably could be classed as fluxus-fuelled-avant-rock-pronk-pop-performance-offal. (F.F.A.R.P.P.P.O) An ever-evolving collective gargling a love of the spontaneous & technical, humourous & desperate, soothing & challenging. In the ilk of Zappa, Beefheart, Henry Cow & other progressive iconoclasts before, Perhaps Contraption rock in opposition & bear this flame atop a mechanical, juddering horse. Fluxus inspired antics & participation is encouraged, as absurd ideas & things move amongst the crowd & engulf the performance. Narratives sew compositions together, themes & improvisation pervade set-lists. Directed by Squire Squier, Perhaps Contraption perform in various incarnations, ranging from gentler, quirky solo acoustic shows, to full blown, carnival-esque interactive musical playgrounds. Each show is custom built to the venue... Song themes stretch from the diuretic effects of hot drinks, to the global abuse of our ecological and mental space, to the translucent torso of a crumpled pensioner in London, and swans guzzling cuboids (and some-things in between).
