‘Well travelled music saturated in Soul’
‘Whilst the strum, strum, sing, sing folk musician is part of the furniture in most pubs around Australia, at least certainly Fremantle, Grealy also uses her voice, her greatest asset, together with a loop pedal and at times a stomp box to create a sort of one-man-band, or should I say woman, in order to create her own flavour of folk. It is this innovation that sets Prita apart from the other folk musicians in the local scene, and it’s this point of difference that will hopefully see the success of her new disc..’ Soulshine Review 2009
As a solo artist Prita layers vocal harmonies live with her loop pedal, accompanied by hand percussion beats and acoustic guitar. Her jazzy, bluesy voice, over simplistic acoustic guitar riffs and beats creates a sometimes folk bordering on soul, with a sound blending Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse.
2009 was a big year in which Prita Supported Ed Kowalczyk of ‘Live’ at the Octagon theatre, toured northwest WA with Toby on the Resurrecting the Roots tour, opened for Carus, Paul Greene and Nathan Gaunt in Fremantle, played at Nannup Music Festival, debuted solo tour in Melbourne playing 7 venues in 9 days, supporting Tin Pan Orange and Mosaic. She launched her second EP Bootleg Live, and debuted solo tour of Europe playing in Athens, Berlin, Tartu, Copenhagen, Milton Keynes, Manchester, with a mix of house concerts, bars, and pubs.
The latest project has been forming the band ‘Prita and the Perfect Strangers’ with jazzy trumpet, funky bass lines, and grooving drum beats, acoustic guitar and melodic vocals. Creating a spacious, melodic, jazzy outfit and playing at venues such as Mojo’s, JB O’reillys, and a residency at X-Wray Café.
Following up from her first two EP’s (Prita EP 2005, and Bootleg Live 2008)Prita’s first full-length album ‘New Life’ is due to be released April 2010 at the Ellington and will be promoted around the country with radio, print media, online presence and touring.
