Rackitt, rak’et, n. A confused din; clamour; the bat used in tennis, &c. ; make a racket; to frolic!
Rackitt’s involvement in the dance scene has spanned over a whole decade. An early introduction to acid house in the late 80’s soon turned into a passion and almost immediately she started to learn to DJ.
1996 saw her play her first gigs on the free party scene with support from Acid Techno stalwarts, Aaron and Chris Liberator, both of whom introduced her to the Immersion sound system crew. It was only a matter of time before she was making a right old Rackitt! Over the next few years she was invited to play on other various reputable sound systems, such as Virus and Bedlam, before moving on to join the London squat party collectives ‘Underground Sound’, ‘Restless Natives’ and ‘Manik’, making a name for herself as one of the most talented and versatile new DJs.
Her style, ‘Hard Edged, Techno/ Acid Techno’ has taken her throughout the country playing clubs, festivals and the more infamous Teknivals, as well as having the opportunity to play a selection of gigs overseas in Europe, Asia, North America and South America.
Aside from the travelling, Rackitt has also taken the opportunity to make her mark in the studio by recording tracks on such imprints as ‘Maximum Minimum’, ‘RAW’ and ‘Pure Noise’, as well as remixing popular Acid Techno anthems such as D.A.V.E. The Drummer’s, ‘Build Up The Pressure’.
When she is not DJ’ing and writing music, she puts her knowledge and experience to good use, providing a review column for ‘Bubble Jam’, one of London’s reputable underground magazines.
Rackitt has recently started a female DJ agency called Vinyl Vixens (www.thevinylvixens.com), which is co- run by Gizelle, Sarah F.A.B and Lucy-Lastics. Rackitt’s vision for the agency is to represent female techno artists from London, putting them on the map so they can get the recognition and respect needed in a mainly male dominated scene.
Rackitt’s future projects include plans to set up her own record label, as well as writing tracks with a number of respected DJ’s and producers such as Ant, Gizelle, Sarah F.A.B, Chris Liberator, Guy “Geezer” McAffer, Darc Marc and Lucy-Lastics.
To add to all this she is also the booking agent for the ‘Stay Up Forever’ DJ Agency and a member of staff at ‘kinetec’record shop in London’s West End, a job that requires an extensive knowledge of parties, DJ’s and the worldwide scene in general!
Just for the record, she has never played a game of tennis in her life!
