In the summer of 2012 having formed a strong songwriting partnership, REUBEN ARCHER and young hot-shot Stampede guitarist and multi-talented music virtuoso ROB WOLVERSON teamed up to write and record a debut solo album.
The album, entitled ‘Personal Sin’ features 13 tracks produced by Reuben and Rob Wolverson and mastered by Ade Emsley (Iron Maiden, Steve Harris). Set for an August 19 release, it will be the debut release on the newly launched TOXIC ARROW RECORDS, a joint venture between Reuben Archer and daughter/manager Lauren Archer of Archer Williams Management.
It features guest appearances from Dave Meniketti (Y&T), John ‘Rhino’ Edwards (Status Quo), Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Gary Moore, Coliseum 2, Snakecharmer), Harry James (Magnum, Thunder, Snakecharmer), Luke Morley (The Union, Thunder), Paul Quinn (Saxon), Paul Raymond (UFO, PRP), Derek Holt (Climax Blues Band), Rocky Newton (Lionheart, MSG), Kevin Riddles (Angel Witch, Tytan) and more.
Foreword from Reuben Archer:
The idea of making a solo album had never occurred to me until Rob Wolverson joined Stampede. One day we got talking, and with Rob just having achieved his degree in sound engineering and with his obvious interests in production, plus the fact that the two of us seemed to write quite easily together, the idea started to become a reality and things started to take shape.
The idea was always to invite fellow musicians to participate on the thirteen tracks, and I have been honoured to have so many eminent musician friends that I’ve made over the years who have lent their valuable talent and time to achieve the end result. I have to say I was overwhelmed by the response when I asked the various musicians to play, and the resulting album is something I will always treasure and be extremely proud of. All I can say is a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed; you did a fantastic job and made a not-so-young rocker extremely happy.
In terms of the material I knew that I wanted more production and instrumentation than I normally have had with my other bands, and so keyboards and even brass feature along with more emphasis on harmony vocals. I just wanted a big melodic sound. You get these ideas for songs and then they take on a life all of their own and turn out totally different than you had first imagined, and that’s what I love about writing and recording. It’s hard to know when and where to stop but you know all the time at some point you just have to draw a line under things. And when you do, have you done the right thing and are people going to like it? I hope so!
Someone asked me, “Why the title ‘Personal Sin’?” Well, I guess we all have one in one guise or another. Mine is something that caught me out at a very early age. It got me into trouble on more occasions than I like to remember. It cost me relationships, sometimes gave me financial problems and caused me no end of frustration, but from the start to the present day it made me feel good and I know within my heart it always will. It’s called Rock ‘N’ Roll.
