Richard Lee is a Windsor-born singer-songwriter and guitarist who develops his music from acoustic performance. He begins playing guitar in his early teens after earlier attempts at piano and a brief period singing in his church junior choir, which ends when his voice breaks.
Early background
Lee grows up in Windsor and is influenced at home by Cliff Richard and Dire Straits during long family car journeys. He has four siblings. He starts guitar with the idea of impressing girls, but continues to develop as a songwriter and performer as his playing improves.
Live work and recording
He first performs at open mic nights and then moves into the London music scene, playing in a range of venues. He uses the money from live work to record his studio album Beautiful Car Wreck.
Beautiful Car Wreck
Beautiful Car Wreck opens with the title track, which is about a failed relationship and compares it to a car crash. The album closes with My Town. It is described through its songs as a collection built around catchy choruses, hook-filled harmonies, direct lyrics, and a warm, intimate vocal style. His live performances of these songs are noted for drawing attention even in loud venues.
Other activity
Lee also works as a Music Factory DJ and a Mastermix DJ.
Festivals and later plans
He performs at four UK music festivals in 2009.
