Hang Drums, Double Bass and Beats. Sculpture Music are a unique contemporary jazz/downtempo/world fusion duo from Exeter, Devon, consisting of Matt Calder (Hang Drum, Halo, Guitars, Electronica, Hammer Dulcimer, Vocals) and John Shaw (Double Bass, Piano, Vocals). Formed in 2013, the band was inspired by Matt's love of the Hang Drum, and more recently with the Halo, an instrument similar to the Hang but with a deeper, richer resonance. The trance-like sonics of the Hang and Halo draws comparisons to African music and modern Jazz, with ambient and dance textures coming from the electronica elements, all firmly underpinned with a lyrical bass foundation. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Massive Attack, Steve Reich and Portishead, their debut album Minor Songs In Major Keys was released in February 2013 The first album received extensive radio play on BBC Introducing, with the track 'One Of These Days' being featured on the Radio 6 Mixtape sessions with Tom Robinson. Several tracks also featured on Tom's 'Fresh On The Net' listening post.
The duo's second EP 'Beneath The Waves' was released in May 2014, and has already recieved extensive airplay on Tom Robinsons show on Radio 6 and BBC Introducing in Devon.
