There are two artists that share this name: 1) The Ramones' vocalist Joey Ramone and his brother Mickey Leigh's band. They recorded one three song ep together but have performed together many times. 2) 9 years of DIY touring, recording and rocking out has shaped Sibling Rivalry into one of Durban’s most charismatic, hard working and honest bands. Last year alone they managed to play shows and festivals all around the country sharing stages with some of SA’s greats including The Spring Bok Nude Girls, Fuzigish, The Rudimentals, New Academics, Tidal Waves, 7th Son, Bed on Bricks, Hog Hogiddy Hog, Japan and I and many more. Not to mention a support slot with long standing American Fat Wreck Chords ska/punkers The Mad Caddies. Other highlights included headlining a show at The Horror Café in Jozi and doing loads of awesome shows in Durban and Cape Town. 2007 was amazing, but 2008 is the year of the Sibling. Since the beginning of the year they've spread far and wide with appearences in Jozi, a headlining slot at the 19th annual Splashy Fen, a show at the Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre in Kwa-mashu; a headlining slot at the 8th Annual Uprising Festival in Umhlanga, and many other packed out shows in popular Durban venues. September will see the release of Sibling Rivalry’s 3rd Studio album, “Durban After Dark” in Durban, Jozi and Pretoria. Thereafter the band will be relocating to Thailand for a six month 'Asian Invasion'. “Contorted Izingoma” the last release is being recognised overseas with reviews in London based zines and web sites, interest from California’s Long Beach Records and airplay on Canadian College Radio. Fierce Independence and a lack of a viable music industry in Durban has forced Sibling Rivalry to create an industry and culture of their own. They are not only responsible for the ever increasing and phenomenal urban music festival, The Uprising Festival, but are also involved in the organisation of many other underground events and parties around Durban. Recently they founded the Durban Collective, a non profit body of active industry professionals aimed at uniting individuals and growing a sustainable arts industry and appreciation in Durban.
