Steve Augeri (born January 30, 1959 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American rock singer. Journey hired Steve Augeri in 1998 to replace Steve Perry, after Perry left the band following their brief mid-1990s reunion due to touring conflicts and Perry's health issues. Augeri and Perry have similar vocal styles, and are sometimes confused for that (plus their similar physique and same first name.) Augeri's debut with the band was on the single, "Remember Me," from the Armageddon movie soundtrack. He is listed on the albums Arrival, Red 13 and Generations. Prior to Journey, Augeri was the lead vocalist in Tall Stories and Tyketto, before retiring from music in the mid-1990's after Tall Stories ran out of momentum. To make ends meet, Augeri was working at The Gap, when Neal Schon came into contact with a demo tape of Augeri's. The timing was right, and Augeri got the call.
