Striding Edge were formed in 1995. They are named after the dramatic ridge on Helvellyn, one of the Lake District's highest mountains. Striding Edge create vital, uplifting dance music and song rooted in Lakeland tradition. They've spent eleven years on the road, continuously playing concerts and ceilidhs all around England, with occasional forays abroad. Through hard work and personal recommendation by their clients, they have evolved into one of the most popular English roots-ceilidh bands from the North West. Striding Edge are a band of professional musicians and friends who have originated a bracing, rousing, relevant sound: Rooted in the rugged indigenous music of Cumbria and the Lake District, Striding Edge's music also takes in earthy rhythm and blues, rock n' roll and world music grooves: A music that conjours up big skies, bracing winds and exposed rock edges. A music that is stirring, sometimes startling, always engaging to their audiences. Striding Edge have a strong reputation on the grass roots cultural scene in the North of England. A recent national best-selling book entitled 'Feet In The Clouds' fondly name-drops Striding Edge as 'The fell runner's band', confirming the band's standing within the hardcore outdoor fraternity in the NW. Amongst others, cultural Icon and radio presenter Mike Harding is a champion of the band, has recorded them and presented their music for listeners on Radio 4. Striding Edge are a real, living peoples band, constantly at work engaging with their audience in their never-ending tour of Northern village halls: constantly evolving as both a musical and cultural phenomenon. http://www.striding-edge.org/
