The Achievers was a band from Delft, Holland. Inspired by songwriters like Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash and JJ Cale, The Achievers played both own songs (with Dutch or English lyrics) and covers, golden oldies by their favorite country and folk artists. Most of the band members had been active in the local music scene before joining The Achievers. Usually in quite loud bands, from punk to metal and worse. After having played in just about every squatters house and shithole, Dirk (rhythm guitar) started itching for something different. More subtle lyrics, more melody and less overdrive if possible. Like Karel (zang), he had always been fond of country and folk music, and in december 2005 the two of them got talking. While enjoying a good bottle of whiskey the two started scheming. A band name was found (both were fans of The Big Lebowski), and the fun could get started. The duo started recording Johnny Cash covers, which were received well by friends and family. The search for other band members could begin! A lead guitarist and bass player were found quickly. After repeated requests, Wouter (lead guitar) and Koen (bass guitar) joined the duo. Veron (drums) was pulled out of a pub early in the morning to complete the band. Or so they thought! After a few months they were joined by Tamar (violin) who filled the void in the melody.
