The Dead poets were originally born in 2003 under the name “the Dead Poets Society” by the hands of Chaves and Zé Santos. During that same year, the band played several concerts in Music stores and art centres. In 2004, and despite great reviews, the band decides to stop due to personal incompatibilities, giving birth to several other side projects. However, in the beginning of 2005, Zé Santos and Chaves decide to bring the band back to life, recruiting new blood: Gomez takes over the keyboards, Nelo the drums (for the period of one year, after which Nuno Carvalho took over the drumsticks). Having been invited to play in an 80's portuguese bands tribute show, the Dead Poets are 'forced' to borrow bass player Paulo Dumonte from the legendary goth act Noctivagus. Later on, Samurai fills in the vacancy regarding the 4 strings. The live debut of this formation is at the Semana Académica de Lisboa, in a venue filled with hundreds of university students. The next show is at Seixal Goth Fest with North-American act The Cruxshadows. The Dead Poets then record “forever”, their first single, freely released on the internet by the label Necrosymphonic Entertainment. Besides significative airlay in several local and nation-wide radios, the single obtains more than 1200 downloads within 4 months. The song is included in the soundtrack for the Movie “mandatory overtime” by Tampa Bay's indie Film Company Sev Inc. A videoclip is recorded and then mixed in Florida by Tony Armer, being then included as one of the extras in the commercial edition of the movie. Having attained an uncommon level of media coverage for an underground band, the Dead Poets rapidly cross over into newspaper, magazines, and music websites. The band was also included in the playlist for cotonete.iol.pt, possibly the most important music portal in Portugal. The sumer of 2006 began for the Dead Poets with a massive performance at the Portugal a Rufar Festival before a delighted audience of 2000 people, and the band is now preparing their next studio recording. The poets are here to stay. ***Check them out at *** www.thedeadpoets.net or www.myspace.com/poetasmortos
