Formed in late summer 2008, The Din spent the best part of a year in The Bleach Factory distilling their sound, before arriving on the Newcastle music scene with a string of renowned performances, including some impressive support slots. Reluctant to categorise their music, which exists as a confluence of styles, the term: retro-psyche-rock’n’roll seems befitting… if the words are used in their broadest terms. Textures keenly borrowed from numerous styles are fused and presented on a musical canvas very much there own: “…bluesy 60s pop meets dirty 90s rock in a jazz club toilet, circa 2010”(DF). The five members originate from three different countries: Nick Grimes (vocals, guitar), Callum Thompson (bass, backing vocals) and Mathew Ross (percussion) are native to North-East England, whilst Peter Currie (keys) is from Northern Ireland and Victor Solana (drums, backing vocals) del Penedès, Spain. Put simply: “catchy melodies, intricately woven, drive forward in the swell of an intoxicating groove”(PR). Yet there is a genuine playfulness to this music - it is after all, just the sound of good friends having fun! The debut CD ‘EP1 – The Bleach Factory Sessions Live’ is due for release and can be previewed at: www.myspace.com/thedinuk - It contains six stunning live tracks recorded at their own studio and two bonus songs. The second EP is scheduled for release in February and at present they are completing two new songs a week, so expect a third soon after! On the back of 2009’s success at ‘Festa Major’ events in Spain, the band will soon announce dates for their forthcoming European Tour in Spain, Holland, Germany and Poland, as well as a number of UK festivals, including a date at The Sage Gateshead in March.
