The Discount Orchestra

The Discount Orchestra is a seven-piece group from the United Kingdom that forms in South London in 2011 and remains active. It plays a blend of gypsy-punk, speed-folk and Balkan-influenced dance music, with elements of folk, punk, ska and circus music. The group’s sound combines fast, rhythmic songs with melodic quirks and is built for lively live performance.

The band draws on London’s darker, more anarchic settings for its subject matter, with songs that deal with love, loss and post-apocalyptic survival. Its line-up includes saxophone, trombone, accordion, fiddle, drums and bass, along with mixed vocal styles. It develops its reputation through live appearances at packed shows and festivals including Bestival, Wilderness and Boomtown.

A second act with the same name also exists from Southwestern Ontario, Canada, and includes Clayton Dyon and Innes Wilson.
